In the Argentine Patagonia region, near the city of Bariloche within the Nahuel Huapi National Park, we offer one of the most beautiful treks in South America. It is a 4-day trek through forests, valleys surrounded by rock walls and a 5 km glacier crossing between the Otto Meiling and Agostino Rocca refuges. On day 2 we will lead an ascent to Pico Argentino, one of the summits of the iconic Cerro Tronador. A technical ice climb exclusive to Aventura Alpina by Brazilian agencies that does not require previous experience, optional on this itinerary. Without a doubt, the Paso de las Nubes crossing will be an experience that is not inferior to the best treks on the planet.
DAY 0 (prior to expedition)
Arrival in Bariloche. Transfer from the airport to the hotel not included. Meals not included. Accommodation included optional.
DAY 1: Pampa Linda – Otto Meilling Shelter
After breakfast at the hotel in Bariloche, we will continue via transfer for approximately 2 hours to the village of Pampa Linda, where we will begin our trek. The trail continues through a typical Patagonian forest full of woodpeckers until we reach the Otto Meilling refuge, where we will have our first direct view of Tronador. The refuge is located on the edge of the glacier, a place with impressive views. Upon arrival at the campsite, our staff will help those who chose to sleep in a tent and accommodate those who chose to sleep inside the refuge. Breakfast and dinner included. Accommodation in a tent or bed.DAY 2: Tronador Ascent (optional) or free day
As an optional extra, we offer an ascent to Cerro Tronador, a technical climb perfect for beginners. We will wake up at 3:30 a.m. to begin the climb while it is still dark. The activity will last at least 12 hours, with glacier crossings, crevasse crossings and easy ice climbing with an average slope of 40 to 50º. Those who choose not to climb Tronador will have a free day at the Meilling refuge. Breakfast, lunch and dinner included. Accommodation in a tent or bed.DAY 3: Otto Meilling Refuge - Agostino Rocca Refuge
This will be the lightest day of the entire journey. We will take the shortest route between the Meilling and Rocca shelters across the Alerce glacier, equipped with all safety equipment (helmet, harness, rigid boots, crampons, rope and ice axe). This will be our last shelter, one of the most incredible in Patagonia due to its privileged location, on the edge of a large canyon with views of the valley and Lake Frías. Breakfast and dinner included at the shelter. Accommodation exclusively in a bed, camping is not allowed.DAY 4: Agostino Rocca Shelter - Lago Frías - Puerto Blest - Bariloch and
On the last day of our trek, we will descend through the valley to Lake Frías, which we will cross by boat for 4 km. We will then walk for another 2 km to Puerto Blest, where we will take another boat ride of 1:30 to the port of Llao Llao, near Bariloche.
